About the service

What is mobile dental anesthesia?

Mobile dental anesthesia means a dentist anesthesiologist comes to the dental office and provides sedation or general anesthesia there. The dental team provides the treatment; the anesthesia clinician looks after the anesthesia care for the whole case. For suitable patients, this lets treatment happen in the familiar dental office instead of a hospital operating room.

Aspire Anesthesia provides mobile IV sedation and general anesthesia for dental practices in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida. Aspire is led by Konstantina S. Giesberg, DDS, DADBA, a board-certified dentist anesthesiologist (Diplomate, American Dental Board of Anesthesiology).

What is a dentist anesthesiologist?

A dentist anesthesiologist is a dentist who has completed hospital-based residency training in anesthesiology and focuses on anesthesia for dental treatment. Dr. Giesberg completed her dental anesthesiology residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, with training in anesthesiology, cardiology, emergency medicine, intensive care, pediatrics and perioperative care.

For patients and families

Can I have IV sedation or general anesthesia at my own dentist’s office?

Often, yes. Your health, the planned treatment and the dental office are reviewed first, and the anesthesia plan follows that individual assessment. Ask your dentist to contact Aspire, or fill in the patient request form and bring it to your dental office.

Who is office-based dental anesthesia for?

It is often considered for patients whose dental anxiety or phobia has prevented treatment, people with a strong gag reflex or fear of needles, children and adults who need additional support to receive dental care, and longer procedures such as full-mouth rehabilitation, full-arch implant treatment (All-on-4 or All-on-6) and multi-quadrant treatment.

Does Aspire provide anesthesia for children?

Yes. Children receive care with pediatric-sized equipment and a plan made for the child, and parents and caregivers are kept informed before, during and after treatment.

For dental practices

Is anesthesia in a dental office safe?

Safety starts with case selection. Every request is reviewed individually, and some patients are better served in a hospital, such as ASA IV or unstable ASA III patients or airways that need hospital resources. During treatment the anesthesia clinician continuously monitors oxygenation, ECG and circulation, temperature, and airway and ventilation, and recovery is assessed and documented before the patient leaves. See Safety & protocols.

How does a dental practice start working with Aspire?

Send a practice inquiry through the request coverage form or call (646) 770-3883. Aspire reviews the practice location, the office set-up and the proposed treatment dates, then discusses the first case with you.
